Dyson Hairdryer

It’s been over a year since the Dyson hair dryer was released, and the buzz is dying off…BUT I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and during the Sephora 20% VIB sale, I had the opportunity to purchase it at a discounted price.

So, in this blog I would like to address how I came to decide in purchasing the hairdryer (despite the crazy and somewhat unjustifiable price), how much I paid for it, and first impressions of the dryer.

1. Why did I choose to buy this hair dryer that was extremely expensive?

All my life, I have never invested in an expensive hair dryer before. The one I was using prior to the Dyson’s arrival was a conair infiniti pro hair dryer. It wasn’t great quality, but it wasn’t shitty quality either. It did the job perfectly fine, and I didn’t have much to complain about. However, this satisfaction may be due to the fact that I’ve never had an expensive dryer before.

So when the Dyson hair dryer first came out and everyone was raving about it, I thought that this hype over a hair dryer was stupid, and immense price tag was definitely not worth it. The only factor that interested me was the simple and elegant design of the hair dryer, but I was not willing to pay $400+ for a hair dryer that I simply found pretty.

Before I got interested in the product there were so many advertisements and celebrities endorsing the product that made me unconsciously interested in the product.

However, the definite first signs of interest came when I saw it for the first time in real life. I was in Korea, and I went shopping to the luxurious Galleria shopping center, and of course they were carrying the dyson models. I saw the purple limited edition and was drawn by the beautiful color. The salesperson told me the price was 550,000 won, but they were having an exclusive 15% sale (467,500won, approx. $390). Although the sale was enticing, I knew I couldn’t buy it there because I had to bring it back to the States.

The next time I saw the product was when I visited my hair dresser. The whole salon was using the white/silver version of the dyson hair dryer, and it helped establish this modern and clean image. While the hair dresser was using the dryer on me, I kept staring at it. The fact that my hair dresser was using it, gave the product a very high credibility. I think this was when I started to plan on buying the product when I returned to the States.

Finally, when I returned to the States and resumed using my conair infiniti pro hair dryer, I made my mind to change my hair dryer and invest in one. However, the price of $399 wasn’t easy to overcome, and I searched for alternatives. I watched numerous reviews on youtube and comparisons. Some youtubers recommended GHD or T3 products that came with a lower price tag. Watching the videos and reading through many reviews, I came to be more confused and overwhelmed with information. So I asked for advice from other people. Most of them told me to go for it (probably because they’re not pulling out the $400 from their pockets). I think I came to realize that if I don’t buy this product and settle for a cheaper alternative, I will always wonder about this product and never be truly satisfied.

So I bought it.

What is the cheapest way, or how did I purchase this product?

In total, I paid $323.35 for it.

I received 20% off during the VIB sale at Sephora, and I had a $15.00 gift card that I got for free through Samsung rewards (points accumulated through Samsung pay).

So from $422.94 (including tax), I was able to save approximately $100.

So what are my first impressions?

I love it. I think it was a great purchase, and I don’t regret paying the price.

1. So from the reviews, I saw people saying it was really light. I completely agree. This is also in relation to the hair dryer you own currently. My infiniti pro hair dryer was heavy, but I didn’t know it was heavy because I’ve never experienced a light one before. So the dyson feels light.

2. The sound is softer and less disturbing to the ears.

3. My hair drys faster. I haven’t recorded the time accurately, but I am able to dry my hair about a minute faster, which doesn’t seem like much, but when I’m trying to get to bed at 1 am, any minute spared is thankful.

But there are minor details that I did not like.

1. the supposed hanger is a small (just tiny), string that wraps around the cord. Honestly, quite sketchy.

2. I do not like where big, bulgy adapter is located on the wire.

So, I love my hair dryer. I think it’s worth the investment if you are willing to make an investment. Also, for people who are like me, who have never owned an expensive hair dryer previously, this investment will make you appreciate the hair dryer more.

S’Well bottle

For a while, I’ve been buying water in plastic bottles but due to the negative effects on the environment I have been searching for a water bottle. When I searched for a water bottle, the primary aspects were design, size and functions. Within design, I wanted something simple and chic. As for the size, I wanted something small so that I could easily carry it around. Finally for functionality, I just wanted the water bottle to do its job and not leak.

So after a while of searching, I came across the S’well bottles. Actually, while shopping in Urban Outfitters I found the S’well bottles. Then I came across numerous of my friends who owned the bottle. So finally, I went online and ordered a set.

It took approximately a week for them to arrive.

I was a little doubtful here. I couldn’t imagine having a bottle that could insulate the temperature for so long.

(However, I was wrong)

My favorite part of receiving and opening a package is right before I get to see the products I ordered. The excitement never dies. I know what’s inside, but it always feels like a birthday present.

And finally my S’well!

I ordered two bottles. Both are in 9oz.

I love the juxtaposing colors as the light blue really brings out the vibrant purple pink.

So after all the unpacking, I used it for about two weeks.

And…it’s great!

Yes, it’s a bottle. But it really does its job properly and I love products that do a good job. I would pour in cold water before I leave the house, and after 6 hours, it would still remain cold! Experiencing the insulation directly really converted me into a supporter.

When I was younger, my mum used to pack me those┬ábulky water bottles called “Thermos”. I hate those bottles. They were not only bulky and ugly, but they also didn’t do the job properly! This may be my personal experience, as some of my friends used to love those, but I thought they were failures.

Especially comparing it to these S’well bottles, Thermos bottles were too ugly to carry as a fashion item. With the S’well bottles, I could easily plop one into my handbag (due to the small size), and take it out of my bag with much pride. Yes, I love the design!

So, to conclude on my experiences: the bottle insulates drinks very well; however, I’m not sure if it does for 12/24 hours. Also, the 9oz size is small and you have to refill often, but I like it because I can easily carry it around and I can also put it inside my handbag.

Thanks for reading my post and I hope you found my experiences helpful!
